Itacaré is mostly known for its wonderful beaches with world class waves. But did you know Itacaré is also an important cocoa growing region?
During our last holidays, we hit the road to find out more about cacao cultivation in Brazil.
Finding authentic farms was not easy. Giving the limited time, we visited the Vila Rosa Cocoa Farm in Taboquinhas. On the way to this small village, which is the heart of cocoa production in the region, you will see many beautiful farms, which unfortunately are not (yet) accessible to visitors.
Vila Rosa is a touristic farm, which was bought by an American traveller a few years ago, you will be able to see the cocoa production process from the seedlings, cultivation, harvest, post-harvest processing to chocolate manufacturing. Vila Rosa is managed by two local ladies who are very open to telling you about their own cocoa history! More information can be found here.
